Illegal drain connections blamed for sewer blockages after heavy rainfall

Rand West City Local Municipality has warned that the recent heavy rainfall has led to numerous sewer blockages within the community.

Municipal spokesperson Phillip Montshiwa said stormwater flow is disrupted because some property owners have improperly connected their yard drains to municipal sewers.

According to Montshiwa, this resulted in foreign objects blocking the networks.

“It is important to emphasise that the recurring blockages are largely attributed to these illegal connections. Our team is diligently working to address these issues, and we kindly request that community members report any illegal activities to the municipality,” Montshiwa concluded.
