Power outages attributed to faulty transformer in Wheatlands
A faulty transformer which led to a power outage in Wheatlands is currently under repair following extreme weather over the weekend.
A faulty transformer in Wheatlands recently caused a power outage and is currently being isolated for repairs.
This is according to ward councillor Alwyn van Tonder who stated the electricity tripped after a severe lightning strike on Sunday night, January 5. Van Tonder and his team managed to restore power to areas such as Loumarina, Wilbotsdal, Botha Plots and Elandsvlei Holdings. However, Wheatlands and Ooster Plots kept losing electricity.
“On Monday the team spent the whole day until late last night [January 7] searching for the fault on the network while also pressure testing cables, isolating transformers and checking isolators and lightning arrestors in Wheatlands,” Van Tonder stated.
A blown cable was found in Ooster Plots which Van Tonder hoped was the only fault, however, there was still a fault in Wheatlands. He explained the team finally found the fault to be a transformer and they are currently isolating it for repairs.
Rand West City Local Municipality was approached for comment but has not given feedback as of yet. An update will be given once feedback from the team and/ or municipality is received.
