First Avenue another pothole-ridden road

A resident of Middelvlei questions whether fixing designated roads for trucks could be the solution to the worsening state of roads in town.

First Avenue could be the key to preventing potholes caused by heavy trucks – if only the road itself could first be repaired.

Resident Hennie Lubbe explained that First Avenue was once the designated route for trucks entering and exiting Randfontein. However, as the road deteriorated, trucks were forced to reroute through town, leading to potholes on other roads.

The foundation of the road is coming to the surface.

According to Lubbe, the road’s foundation is now exposed, and its condition has worsened to the point where a complete rebuild is necessary. He added that the road would need to be lifted and reinforced with additional gravel.
