Seven Randfontein suburbs in the dark
Current power outages in seven areas are due to load reduction at the Drowel Substation, following issues detected with the Eskom transformer supplying it.
Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) confirmed that the current power outages affecting some areas are attributed to power supply challenges of the Eskom transformer at the Drowel Substation.
RWCLM spokesperson Phillip Montshiwa stated Eskom technicians were attending to the transformer yesterday, July 9, where an oil leak occurred. To avoid damage to the second transformer at the substation, Montshiwa noted that load reduction will be applied.
As a result, the following areas are experiencing power outages:
• Wheatlands
• Loumarina
• Ooster
• Wilbotsdal and Bootha Plots
• Dan Tloome
• Afri Village
• OR Tambo
Montshiwa concluded that the technical team is working to stabilise the supply as soon as possible.
