Electrical infrastructure theft spikes in Rand West City

With electrical infrastructure theft on the rise, Rand West City Local Municipality is urging residents to remain alert and report suspicious activity.

Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) is warning residents about an increase in the theft of electrical infrastructure.

Municipal spokesperson Phillip Montshiwa stated that criminal activities targeting pole-mounted transformers are currently on the rise in both municipal and Eskom supply areas.

He noted that three transformers have been affected so far, with one completely stripped since the start of this month. Furthermore, on the morning of November 13, an attempted theft was reported in Wheatlands.

“We urge the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity around electrical infrastructure. Your awareness plays a vital role in protecting essential electrical supply,” Montshiwa concluded.

For emergencies or to report suspicious activity, always call 10111 or your nearest police station. To report crime anonymously, contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111. You can also use the My SAPS App, available on Google Play, the Apple App Store, or via USSD by dialling *134*10111#.
