Planned 10-hour blackout to hit multiple Randfontein areas

A full-day planned outage will affect multiple areas as infrastructure upgrades get underway at the Drowel Substation.

Residents and businesses supplied by the Drowel Substation are advised of a planned electricity outage scheduled for Wednesday, May 6, from 08:00 to 18:00.

The affected areas include:
• Wheatlands
• Oosterplot
• Elandsvlei
• Loumarina
• Botha Plots
• Wilbotsdal
• Greenhills
• Randgate
• Randpoort
• Helikonpark
• Culemborgpark
• Eikepark
• Homelake
• Afri Village
• Droogeheuwel
• Dan Tloome

According to Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) spokesperson Phillip Montshiwa, the interruption is necessary to allow for the installation of new feeder link cables at the substation. The upgrade is aimed at improving the reliability and efficiency of the local power network and forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen electricity infrastructure and reduce the risk of unplanned outages in future.

Affected customers are advised to treat all electrical appliances as live during the outage period and to plan accordingly. Electricity supply will be restored once the work has been completed and it is safe to do so.

Residents are urged to make the necessary preparations to minimise inconvenience during the scheduled outage.
