Residents in several Randfontein areas are advised to prepare for a temporary water supply interruption today, August 3, as pumps will be switched off to allow reservoir levels to recover.

According to Rand West City Local Municipality spokesperson Phillip Montshiwa, the pumps supplying the Greenhills and Finsbury reservoirs will be switched off at 13:00 due to low water levels. The reservoirs are currently operating at 30% capacity, and the shutdown is intended to allow the system to replenish. The Randfontein Herald sent a media enquiry to Montshiwa at 12:30 on August 3, requesting comment on how the reservoir levels dropped to 30%. An update will be published once a response is received.

The interruption will affect Greenhills, Robin Park, the Industries area, Finsbury, Dan Tloome, as well as Robinson Hospital, Lenmed Hospital and surrounding areas.

Montshiwa said the pumps will be switched back on at 17:00, after which the water supply is expected to return gradually as the system stabilises.

Residents are urged to use water sparingly and ensure they have enough water stored before the interruption. Businesses and essential services are also encouraged to put contingency measures in place where possible.
