Leano Foundation: Helping where it is needed

An NPO in Mohalekng is passionate about community development and uplifting children in need.

The Leano Foundation in Mohlakeng is in the business of helping communities and children in need.

“Our organisation is truly passionate about community development and we want to see children in a better space,” said the founder of the local NPO, Mapule Ratsoeu.

The Leano Foundation has a soup kitchen and provides warm and hearty meals to those in need every winter. Photo submitted.

“We started by giving underprivileged children vegetables at school and we gradually also started handing out uniforms that we got from our different donation drives. This prompted us to also go to schools and raise awareness on issues around teenage pregnancy, alcohol and drug abuse as well as bullying.

“Our initial focus was the girl child and we ensured that we handed out sanitary towels and toiletries throughout our visits. We have, however, also moved on to equally focus on the boy child as well and we have made strides in this regard.”

The NPO also goes the extra mile for children in need and do they often gather sanitary pads and toiletries for girls. Photo submitted.

She added that apart from the above, they also have a soup kitchen to feed those in need every winter. Their other focus is giving motivational talks to drug addicts that will help guide them in the right direction and giving clothes to those in need throughout the West Rand.
