Severely injured dog cries for help

No More Tears is appealing to the community for financial aid after a dog was found with severe injuries.

A seriously injured male Jack Russell mixed breed, suspected of being hit by a car, needs help with his vet bills.

According to the director of No More Tears Animal Rescue, Stephan Hendricks, he received a call at about 05:00 on March 4 about a critically injured dog in need of medical assistance. The person subsequently picked up the dog to get it out of the street.

“When I arrived 20 minutes later, the dog could not move at all,” Hendricks said.

The dog has since been named Lucky.

Hendricks claimed that he took Lucky to the Randfontein Animal Hospital where Dr Johan Naudé noted the dog sustained a broken bone in his right leg and had multiple skin abrasion wounds on the left leg. Other visible injuries also included wounds on the hind legs.

Even though Lucky does not need metal pins to fix both front legs, Hendricks is concerned about the medical expenses amounting to almost R10 000.

“That is our biggest challenge. We also need to look at the possibility of finding the dog a home. Although the dog was found with a collar around its neck, we could not track the owners,” Hendricks said.

He further urged responsible pet ownership and advised the community to consider the safety of animals. He emphasised that if a person hits an animal with their car, the local SPCA can be contacted on 011 412 3114. He added that community members can also contact him on 084 433 7748.

Lucky sustained a broken bone in the right leg and multiple skin abrasion wounds on the left leg.

“Do not leave the animal to suffer from its injuries. Please move it out of the road and call for assistance.”

Donations for this dog can be paid directly to the Randfontein Animal Hospital. Those willing to lend Lucky a helping financial hand can contact the animal hospital on 011 412 1010.
