Cops to do whatever it takes to keep children safe

As part of their #ChildProtectionWeek2024 awareness campaign, various government departments and law enforcement agencies reached out to the next generation.

The police, other law enforcement agencies and even the government reached out to young minds recently to teach them about the importance of safety.

In a statement issued by Sergeant Portia Mabala of the Randfontein Police’s Social Crime Prevention Unit, she said that they, along with other stakeholders, visited Annatjie Pre-School and Day Care Centre as part of their #ChildProtectionWeek2024 awareness campaign.

She explained the campaign aimed to educate the children on safety and sensitise them to #StrangerDanger, child abuse, rights and responsibilities as well as #RoadSafety.

“They were encouraged to learn and memorise the emergency numbers if they needed police service as well as the ambulance and fire brigades. Children also received balloons from the police and other stakeholders that symbolise the theme,” Mabala said.

The Traffic Department, West Rand District Municipality, the Department of Health, the Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Youth Crime Prevention Desks and CPF patrollers visited the preschool where 54 children were reached with their message.
