Read, read, read! – municipality to the youth

A competition was held recently to motivate learners and students to read.

Rand West City Libraries along with Western Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) College celebrated World Book Day earlier this week and encouraged reading among the youth by hosting a competition.

The competition consisted of three categories such as an All About Mzansi Quiz, a Spelling Bee competition and Mathematics quiz.

This is according to librarian Thandeka Legae who stated that the competition encouraged school learners to learn more about South Africa as well as motivating them to read. Thandeka says the students performed well in all of the categories.

The top three in the All About Mzansi Quiz are Benedict Letimela, Thabo Mathebula and Mlawuli Mkhize.

“The competition was hosted in four campuses namely Randfontein, Carletonville, Krugersdorp West and Krugersdorp Central. The competition strengthened the partnership with our neighbouring municipalities,” Thandeka explained.

Representatives from Student Support Services for all four campuses assisted with registering and selecting the students.

The top three in the Spelling Bee competition are Sibingile Mbazima, Mlawuli Mkhize and Mbali Majosi.

The winners of the All About Mzansi Quiz were Thabo Mathebula (first place) with Mlawuli Mkhize claiming the second place and Benedict Letimela, third.

Mashiane Lerato won first place in the Mathematics quiz while Njabulo Mngomezulu took second place and Mlawuli Mkhize third.

The Spelling Bee champion of the day is Sibongile Mbazima with Mbali Mayosi following close behind. Mlawuli Mkhize once again achieved third place.
