Rand West Fire Department's ladies' team performed exceptionally well during the Fit to Fight Fire competition.

The Rand West Fire Department recently participated in the Fit to Fight Fire competition to prove their firefighting skills.

On May 25, the Rand West Fire assembled a men’s and ladies’ team to participate in a competition against various other fire brigades across South Africa. The event was hosted by the Midvaal Fire Department.

According to Rand West Emergency Services Fire Chief Benny Mohlabeng, there were different categories and various prizes to be won by the teams. The Rand West ladies’ team ended with a bronze medal for their outstanding perseverance. Mohlabeng stated that it was the first time the ladies’ team participated in a competition of this magnitude.

Precious Kopo, Palesa Maphanga, Sipho Mlangeni, Busisiwe Malapela and Andronica Mabunda.

Mohlabeng thanked the Avbob Randfontein branch, Bonitas Medical Aid and renowned businessman Jimmy Pappas.

“To the Rand West community, I want to ask you to support our firefighting team. The team is well-oiled and trained. They can handle fires and I can confidently say the community members’ lives and properties are safe. We urge the community to rally behind the team as they will be participating in other competitions,” Mohlabeng requested.

The next competition will take place on July 25.
