Celebrating Spring Day the Toekies way
The community gathered to celebrate Spring Day the Toekies Way.
The community of Toekomsrus enjoyed a boisterous day to welcome the spring season.
The organiser of the event, Matlou Emmanuel Mabapa, stated that plenty of families gathered to make the event successful. He added all sorts of entertainment was available from sunrise to sunset.
Residents could enjoy activities such as aerobics, a colour run, soccer games for children, a soccer tournament for men, and a jumping castle. Gifts donated from sponsors towards recreational activities were also presented to the community members.
He further explained that celebrating the day meant celebrating a new season of emotional rebirth and hope.
Not only did Matlou decide to host the event to celebrate Spring Day, but he also saw the need to gather the community together to uplift the youth.
“The aim was to uplift our recreational activities and infrastructure. This way it would be easier to fight against societal issues such as crime, GBV, substance abuse and teenage pregnancy. Let us unite as a community to fight against all challenges facing us, to better our lives,” Matlou claimed.

The founder of the Avid Readers Programme, Nkateko Mabusela, organised the colour run. According to Nkateko, about 35 children participated in the run.
“The children were so excited to throw each other with colour powder. This brought a lot of laughter and giggles,” Nkateko said.
She further explained that the run aimed to bring the community together during the start of a new season.
“Spring is a season of rebirth and renewal. It’s like watching nature bloom into new life and a reminder of the endless cycle of growth and transformation,” she expressed gleefully.
Nkateko is appealing to the community to donate any preloved books to the book club. If any donations can be made, contact Nkateko on 081 774 0803.
