Simunye hosts early Heritage Month celebrations
Heritage Day was celebrated early in Simunye with a major regional showcase event.
The Gauteng Organisation of Community Arts and Culture Centres (GOMACC) hosted a regional showcase event where individuals and groups presented various cultures and diversities.
GOMACC regional chairperson Tebogo Molefe, vice chairperson Sinethemba Jaca and co-ordinator Tebogo Leshomo organised the event to witness talent from the youth and also learn new things from them as they use their crafts.
According to Tebogo, they host regional events annually for the development of young thespians. He added it was also an opportunity to identify the young children’s potential and assist them in reaching their goals.
Groups of individuals and artists performed in a variety of categories, including poetry, theatre and dance to compete for prizes. He claimed more than 100 people formed part of the audience to make this event a success.
“It was successful since multiple groups won prizes and numbers came in for attendance. We also had municipal officials witness the celebration of cultures. We went the extra mile to transport groups that had no money for transportation,” Tebogo explained.
