And the Mr and Miss Westcol winners are …
This year’s theme was highlighted by the participation of students from the disabled and LGBTQ+ communities.
The Mr and Miss Westcol Pageant, recently held, promoted a platform celebrating inclusivity and diversity.
The event took place on October 19 at the Carletonville campus, with students from all five campuses – Westonaria, Randfontein, Krugersdorp, Krugersdorp-West, and Carletonville – joining the prestigious event.
Forty-three contestants participated, judged by Neo Mokobane, Kamogelo Lemkwe, and Tsebo Moleleke. After extensive deliberation, Sandiso Nkomeni from the Randfontein campus and Mpho Mophakela from the Westonaria campus were crowned Mr and Miss Westcol 2024.
“The purpose of the event was to provide students with a platform to build confidence, develop life skills, and form meaningful connections with their peers,” explained Thandeka Swelinkomo from Western TVET College.
The winners will serve as college ambassadors, participating in leadership and outreach initiatives, and engaging in student-led activities.
This year’s theme, inclusivity and diversity, was highlighted by the participation of students from the disabled and LGBTQ+ communities.
“Great strides have been made towards equality, as non-discriminatory and bias-free values are central to Westcol. The event showcased talent, beauty, and confidence, bringing together a vibrant audience of staff, students, and local supporters,” Thandeka added.
