Blasting operation in progress in Droogheuwel

The public is warned about blasting operations taking place at Droogheuwel Mega Civil Phase 1 Project until November 29.

The community is cautioned not to panic as blasting operations will occur at the Droogheuwel Mega Civil Phase 1 Project along the R41.

Andre Myburg from New Era Blasting and Demolition confirmed that blasting is taking place between November 25 to 29. He said the operations are intended for rock removal and will continue for an hour typically between the hours of 15:00 and 16:00.

He included the blasting signals will be:

• A siren will sound five minutes before the blast and the area will be evacuated
• Four flagmen with danger boards will secure the area
• Flagmen will also be allocated 30 minutes before the blasting to evacuate people from the area
• Two minutes after the last warning signal, the blast will be initiated

After the blast, the area will be inspected and once it is determined it is safe one whistle signal lasting at least five seconds will be sounded. This will grant permission for the employees to return to the blasting area.
