Rand West Emergency Services fire chief Benny Mohlabeng confirmed they received a call at 15:40 about a building that collapsed at the development. Upon arrival, they discovered a part of one of the structures had collapsed.
Eyewitnesses at the scene informed the emergency services that one person was trapped underneath the structure. Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) then assisted with a Tractor Loader Backhoe to remove the rubble from the person.

Andries Bozyn, an eyewitness, said he, along with his brother and the man, went to collect wood when they heard a loud noise and found the building had collapsed on top of the man.
We tried to help him, but we couldn’t lift the rubble off him,” said Bozyn.
Mohlabeng stated it is still unclear what exactly caused the collapse. He concluded multiple emergency services were at the scene to assist.
