Hope for Thomas after vicious attack leaves him wounded

After a brutal attack left Thomas the dog with serious tail injuries, No More Tears Animal Rescue, Randfontein Animal Hospital and the community have come together to help him recover fully.

No More Tears Animal Rescue recently assisted a dog and her new owner after the dog was attacked by other dogs and sustained serious injuries to his tail.

Clarisse Kruger, a volunteer at No More Tears, said, while the team was dropping off animals at the vet recently, a man quietly stood there with a dog wrapped in a blanket.

“You could see the pain in both his and the dog’s eyes. Thomas’ story is sad, but also a testament to caring in difficult circumstances.”

She explained that Thomas’s owner is currently overseas, and while he is away, one of his trusted workers took care of Thomas. However, Thomas was attacked by other dogs and his tail was injured. Without financial support from the owner, the worker is unable to afford the necessary vet bills for Thomas’s care.

Over time, the wound got worse and became rotten as it wasn’t being treated.

“Finally, the worker couldn’t bear watching Thomas suffer anymore and took him to the vet, even though he had no idea how he would ever pay for it. He relied on his love for the dog and hoped that help would somehow follow,” said Clarisse.

Luckily, Randfontein Animal Hospital stepped in and offered to help Thomas. However, even at a lower cost, his treatment is still extensive and costly.

“What makes this story special is that the worker decided to officially adopt Thomas as his own. He stepped in where others could not, not only by taking him to the vet, but now by offering him a permanent and loving home,” added Clarisse.

He is still receiving treatment after having undergone more than one operation, where the vet tried to cover the wound with skin so he can still lead a normal life.

“Thomas is an incredibly loving and friendly dog, through all the pain and hardship, he still responded with trust and softness. His spirit cannot be broken, and his love for people just shows how special he is,” Clarissa noted.

“Any contribution to our vet bill will be greatly appreciated. Thomas has been under intensive care at the vet since June 22, and he still has a long road to recovery ahead of him. His condition requires ongoing medical care, special treatment and medication, all of which quickly become expensive. We appeal to the public to help cover these costs, so that we can give Thomas the best possible chance at a full and healthy life. Every penny makes a difference, and with people’s support, we can continue to fight for his recovery.”

She also asked the community to share Thomas’s story and help create awareness about the importance of reaching out for help.

“His story reminds us that no one has to suffer alone and there is always someone to help,” concluded Clarisse.
