West Rand seminar to boost food security and farming innovation

Farmers are encouraged to join the upcoming G20 Emerging Farmers Seminar in Greenhills, focusing on food security, inclusivity and sustainable agriculture.

Farmers across the West Rand are being encouraged to attend a seminar aimed at promoting inclusive agriculture and empowering youth and women in the agri-food sector.

The Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) is hosting the West Rand G20 Emerging Farmers Seminar in partnership with the West Rand District Municipality, local municipalities, and Gauteng Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs.

The event will take place at Greenhills Stadium from 09:00 to 15:00 on September 26, according to a GCIS statement. Rand West City, Mogale City, and Merafong City municipalities will all be involved.

The seminar is part of the G20 Priority 2 Food Security initiative and will bring together farmers, government departments, development agencies, and private stakeholders. It will focus on supporting youth and women, exploring technology in agriculture and agro-processing, and building climate resilience for sustainable production.

Attendees can expect a panel discussion and an exhibition showcasing agricultural services and technologies.

Residents interested in attending are asked to RSVP by 20 September by emailing caroline.setsiba@randwestcity.gov.za.
