Doepa’s safe return brings joy after two days missing

After spending two days wandering the streets, Doepa the Dachshund was found safe and excited to return home.

Doepa is finally home after going missing on September 29, bringing relief to his owner as he sleeps on the couch again.

Helga Klopper, Doepa’s owner, explained that a resident saw Doepa in a veld, and after the message was relayed to her, she quickly jumped in to search for him.

Clarisse Kruger, a volunteer at No More Tears Animal Rescue Centre, stated that Doepa was found in Albert Wenning Street in Greenhills on October 1.

“He was so tired when we found him, his little tongue was hanging out. He was dirty, but didn’t seem to be hungry,” Helga said.

She continued, he was extremely excited when he realised he was home.

According to Helga, Doepa was bouncing in his seat the moment he smelled his home. He was then taken to the vet, and luckily, they found he was unharmed.

“We are incredibly grateful that he is safely back with his owners. It is always stressful when a pet is roaming the streets, especially if it is afraid of the weather. There are so many dangers, including the risk of being hit by vehicles. Luckily, this story has a happy ending,” said Clarisse.

“Social media is one of the most powerful tools to find a missing pet. The sooner a photo and description are posted, the sooner people can start networking by sharing the post and being on the lookout. Every extra pair of eyes can mean the difference between an animal wandering the streets for hours or even days and one that comes home quickly and safely. It is therefore very important for owners to act as soon as possible and spread their lost pet’s information.”
