Pure talent turns Westonaria teen into TV star

Relying solely on her talent, sixteen-year-old Kelebogile Nkwana landed a role in the acclaimed soap opera Scandal!

Westonaria High School’s Kelebogile Nkwana (16) has landed a role in the popular South African soap opera Scandal! – a remarkable achievement that showcases her natural acting talent.

Earlier this year, Kelebogile auditioned for the role despite never having attended an acting class. Her passion and determination were enough to convince the casting directors.

She began filming in August and has already recorded four voice-overs and two scenes as Tshepi – a character who helps raise awareness about teenage pregnancy and underage relationships. Tshepi fell pregnant at 15 after being involved with an adult and now speaks out about the consequences.

“I was very surprised when I got the role because I did not have a lot of hope when I auditioned. But I am so excited for this journey because I will get the opportunity to meet celebrities I only see on TV,” she said.

Kelebogile cites South African actress Lorcia Cooper as her biggest inspiration.

Although she has found her newfound fame a little overwhelming – being recognised and praised everywhere she goes, even by family and neighbours – she remains grounded and focused on her goals.

Her love for acting began in primary school, and she plans to continue pursuing it through university and beyond. While working towards her dream of becoming a professional actress, Kelebogile also intends to study for a BCom in Information Systems.
