A tragic scene unfolded on Monday morning, November 3, when an elderly pedestrian was fatally struck by a truck on the R28 near Mohlakeng.

According to the truck driver, Luncedo Lokoto, he was pulling away from a stop sign and travelling at under 40km/h when the man suddenly stepped into the road. Lokoto said he tried to swerve, but the pedestrian was too close to avoid impact.

The man sustained a severe head injury and died at the scene.

The Randfontein Herald attempted to obtain official comment from police and emergency services at the scene, but none was immediately available. Feedback will be published once received.
