Herald journalist bids farewell

Journalist at the Randfontein Herald says goodbye.

• Dominique Duvenhage writes:

Hello, my fellow community members.

It is with a heavy heart that I have to write this article. I am bidding farewell to you – a community that treated me with kindness, respect and gratitude.

Know that this decision was not easy, and that leaving a considerate and generous community was a decision I had to make after careful consideration. The stories I wrote and the memories I made during my time here will be deeply cherished in my heart.

There were many times I would tread treacherous sewage spills, see heartbreaking situations play out before me, and even celebrate hope along with residents. I had the blessing to get to know various cultures, diverse personalities, and a unity so strong.

While I focused on growing my career as a trustworthy journalist, something else grew much deeper. I realised that I had gained much more than just experience, I gained a passion for the people – the residents, the activists, the charities, the leaders, and many more.

Serving as your local journalist was an absolute honour.

As I pack and leave for the next season of my life, I hope to see the community continue in their resilience and keep showing everyone the same compassion that I had the privilege of experiencing.

At Caxton, we employ humans to generate daily fresh news, not AI intervention. Happy reading!
