Leading the way in HIV care
Rotanganedza Community Care celebrates excellence in caring for people living with HIV.
Rotanganedza Community Care, an NPO dedicated to supporting people living with HIV, has received multiple awards in recognition of its work in the community.
Founder Caroline Tiba said the organisation has been recognised for various achievements, including civil society contributions, best-performing facility awards, its community-led monitoring programme, and wellness and appreciation events.
“I feel so happy about these achievements. It shows the organisation has grown,” said Caroline.
She highlighted that the NPO has also been ranked number one for caring for patients living with HIV, HIV testing, and linkage to care. Looking ahead, Caroline said they plan to expand their work to Limpopo, where residents face challenges accessing healthcare and often turn to traditional healers. She stressed the need to establish a health post in the area.
Asnath Alaerts, chairperson of People Living with HIV in Rand West, explained the National Strategic Plan, which focuses on three key goals:
• First 95: Ensure every person with HIV knows their status
• Second 95: Link diagnosed individuals to treatment
• Third 95: Track patients to ensure they receive ongoing treatment
Asnath noted that a major challenge is locating patients who have moved to other areas to ensure they continue treatment.
Out of the 1.1 million people living with HIV, Caroline said, only 5% adhere to their treatment.
“This is why we started the National Strategic Plan – to support the remaining patients. However, we need help from other stakeholders to locate those who have moved,” she added.
Caroline concluded that by 2030, they aim to see every patient on treatment, ensuring comprehensive care for people living with HIV.
