Teachers from the D2 district in Randfontein were recently honoured for their contribution to the success of the Class of 2025.

Top-performing teachers from Randfontein, Mohlakeng, Westonaria and Bekkersdal were recognised at an awards ceremony held at Laerskool Modderfontein, celebrating subject excellence.

The event brought together education officials, school leaders and colleagues to acknowledge teachers whose learners achieved high pass rates and distinctions across a range of subjects.

Among those recognised was Westonaria High School’s Ashley van der Westhuizen, who achieved a 100% pass rate in Tourism.

“Teaching is not an easy profession; it requires passion for both the learners and the subject. Receiving this award again shows that not only I, but many teachers in the district, are doing our best,” he said.

This is the third consecutive year that Ashley has achieved a 100% pass rate in the subject.

At a separate top achievers’ awards ceremony held last month, Rand West mayor Alderman Dennis Thabe said the strong performance of the 2025 matric class was due not only to learner dedication, but also to the support and expertise of their teachers.
