The roads were barricaded with burning tyres and debris, disrupting traffic in and out of the township. Protesters say their concerns about safety, slow response times, and inadequate policing have not been properly addressed.

Community member Mpho Monapule said the protest follows a breakdown in trust. She added that residents believe police are failing to respond effectively, especially to the ongoing tensions linked to illegal mining operations in the area.

Monapule also highlighted a lack of visible policing in high-risk areas, saying repeated complaints to authorities have resulted in little to no improvement. According to her, this has forced the community to take action to be heard.

Law enforcement officials, including Public Order Policing units, were deployed to monitor the situation and maintain order. While the protest caused significant disruption, no major injuries were reported.

The situation remains tense, with residents warning that further protest action may follow if their concerns are not addressed.
