Gerrit Maritz Primary School Grade R learners get hands-on with farm animals
Miniature horse rides and animal feeding sessions gave young learners a memorable taste of farm life outside the classroom.
Grade R learners at Gerrit Maritz Primary School enjoyed a hands-on learning experience when the school hosted a farm animal day on September 10.
The learners, who are currently learning about farming as part of their Grade R theme, were allowed to get up close with a variety of farm animals during the special day.

Excited learners fed some of the animals, while others had the chance to gently pet and interact with them. The highlight for many was riding on miniature horses, giving them an experience they would not normally have in the classroom.

Grade R teacher Stacey McCarthy said the learners were thrilled to see the farming theme come to life.

“The kids are doing a farming theme and were very excited about the day’s event. We decided it would be great to get the animals here so the kids could have a real-life experience seeing, touching and feeding the animals,” said McCarthy.

The event provided learners with an opportunity to learn through direct interaction while creating fun and memorable experiences around their classroom theme.
