Gerrit Maritz announces new head leaders
Hope for a team of dedicated and supportive head leaders for 2025 at Laerskool Gerrit Maritz Primary.

Laerskool Gerrit Maritz Primary has officially elected its head leaders for this year.
School spokesperson Sonia Eksteen explained the leaders’ duties include assisting with discipline and setting an example for the other learners. They monitor the classrooms and corridors during breaks and before school and support learners’ welfare when needed. They are also responsible for reporting any issues that may arise regarding maintenance to the relevant staff.
Further, they assist with school events and extracurricular activities.
This year’s head girl and boy is Mashudu Modau and Phillip Quimbine respectively. The first deputy head boy is Zanukuhle Langa and the second deputy head boy is Chulumanco Dekeda. The first deputy head girl is Venushke van Tonder and the second deputy head girl is Orefile Bereng.
Sonia expressed the school’s hope for the leaders are that they would promote a culture of respects and responsibility, which is their first priority.
“We hope the leaders will ensure a safe and orderly school environment and support both teaching and learning by setting an example as well as encouraging their fellow learners along with building positive relationships. We wish for our head leaders to grow into a team of dedicated and responsible individuals who make a meaningful impact on the daily life of our school community,” concluded Sonia.
They further wish for their leaders to have confidence in their leadership as well as character growth and success.
