Primary learners ace Mzansi Quiz
Local primary schools showcased their general knowledge in the most recent All About Mzansi Quiz competition.
Rand West City Libraries recently hosted their second annual All About Mzansi Quiz competition in celebration of South African Library Week.
According to programme librarian Thandeka Legae, the theme of this year’s competition was ‘Libraries for Sustainable Communities’.
“The competition aimed to encourage and develop a culture of reading among the learners and to encourage learners and educators to learn more about our history while learners gained knowledge about our country,” Thandeka explained.
Five primary schools within Rand West City participated in the competition.
Each school was represented by one participating learner, namely:
• Hlelokuhle Dlala from Avantè Primary School
• Ofetse Kompi from Malerato Primary School
• Lelihle Nongena from Maputle Primary School
• Lindsay Isaacs from Toekomsrus Primary School
• Kagiso Motsau from Sedimosang Primary School
Ria van Tonder and Philip Moatshe were the adjudicators for the competition.
Learners answered questions based on general knowledge about South Africa and displayed great enthusiasm. Interestingly, last year’s winner was also from Avantè Primary School. How long will they retain this spot? We shall see next year,” Thandeka concluded.
