Hoërskool Jan Viljoen RCL reflects on a year of leadership

As their term comes to an end, Hoërskool Jan Viljoen’s outgoing RCL leaders reflect on an emotional year of leadership and share words of encouragement for the newly elected team.

The outgoing Representative Council of Learners (RCL) leadership group at Hoërskool Jan Viljoen has brought its term to a close, reflecting on a year of growth, service, and shared achievements while preparing to hand over the reins to the newly elected leadership team.

The outgoing leaders marked the end of their journey with mixed emotions, looking back on the experiences and milestones that shaped their year in leadership and the legacy they hope to leave behind.

Outgoing head boy Luthando Mpanjukelwa reflected on the emotional significance of the inauguration evening, saying it was the moment when the group truly realised their time as leaders had come to an end.

“The night of the inauguration was very emotional; it is when it truly dawned on us that our time had come to an end. We reflected on how far we’ve come and all we have achieved together up to this point, from the fateful evening of our inauguration a year ago,” he said.

Luthando expressed confidence in the incoming leadership group, saying he was pleased to hand over the responsibility to capable individuals who would lead the school into a new chapter.

“I am pleased to mention that we’ve handed over the torch to a group of capable individuals who will usher in a new chapter at Jan Viljoen, filled with success in all facets, and I wish the newly elected RCL as well as the newly elected exec all the best for the year to come,” he said.

Deputy head girl Helena Benecke also reflected on the journey, describing the year as one of personal growth, service, and memories she would always treasure.

“This year has been a journey of growth, service, and unforgettable memories that I will always cherish,” she said.

As the outgoing team prepares to step aside, Helena encouraged the incoming leaders to approach their responsibilities with purpose and humility, reminding them that leadership is about more than holding a position.

“As we hand over to the new leadership, my message is to lead with purpose, serve with humility, and never underestimate the difference you can make. Remember that leadership is not about the title you carry, but the legacy you leave behind,” she said.

With the leadership transition marking the end of one chapter and the beginning of another, the outgoing RCL members leave behind their experiences and lessons while wishing the newly elected representatives and executive team success as they take on their responsibilities at Hoërskool Jan Viljoen.
