Moddies celebrate Literacy Day in colourful book character costumes

Fairies, superheroes and everything magical took place at Laerskool Modderfontein Primary School recently as learners dressed up as their favourite book characters.

Laerskool Modderfontein Primary School came alive with colour and creativity as learners dressed up as their favourite book characters to celebrate Literacy Day, showing off their love for reading.

The school joined forces with Hillshaven Library to celebrate Literacy Day (September 8) as well as SA National Book Week (September 5–11).

“We had such a fun day seeing what characters the learners and teachers dressed up as. This year, the characters ranged from fairies, superheroes and characters from the Minecraft books. It was a wonderful celebration,” Hillshaven librarian Lydia van Aswegen expressed.

Lydia added that this celebration takes place annually and is in collaboration with Rand West City Libraries.

“We are always overjoyed to spread the love for reading,” she concluded.
