LETTER: Has the traffic department given up on policing our roads?

Resident heavily questions the traffic police after program which aired on national TV highlights the lack of policing on SA roads.

On Sunday night, October 9, Carte Blanche aired a program on truck traffic on SA roads.

Crossing white lines, speeding, failing to stop at traffic lights, and stop streets. Plus scenes of horrendous road accidents where school learners and others were maimed or killed.

What was really highlighted was the lack of policing, in fact absolutely no interest was shown by the traffic authorities.

The inference is that the cops look the other way when and where trucks are involved.

Why? It was pretty obvious to all that they are paid to do exactly this.

What kind of traffic police allow trucks to charge at high speed through stop streets at school crossings? And why do the teachers at these schools not complain?

Or are they like the local traffic police and have given up too?
