How soccer can benefit young minds

The Greenhills Soccer Academy aims to keep youngsters off the streets and away from social ills through soccer.

Kholosani Mtshazo, coach of the academy, said by developing the young players, they will have a chance to excel in the sport instead of wasting their talents by sitting at home and being tempted into bad behaviour.

“By instilling soccer skills one can teach a youngster good discipline to become a better citizen. We look at the basics going forward, especially given the fact that they are aspiring to become professional players. When they are still young, they can be moulded in the right way.

“Another point is that it takes them away from destructive habits as they use up their time to come here, train and go back home.”

He added that they do not only benefit from honing their soccer skills, but they are taught life skills to apply in school and in life in general.
