RandMark appoints new chairman
Newly appointed chairman of RandMark is honoured to be part of a club that has stood the test of time.
Jan Kotze, the newly appointed chairman of Randmark said he is honoured to be at the helm of a sport club that has stood the test of time for 30 years.
The 50-year-old said he is proud to be leading a team from various disciplines that comprise running, walking and cycling, and strives to develop and maintain activities that would grow the club in town.
Jan had just a schools rugby background and only played social golf before he fell in love with cycling.
“I do not have a very good history as an athlete, apart from participating in those two,” Jan said.
He added that clubs such as Randmark should never be taken for granted and should always be appreciated as they help to inspire amateur athletes who are trying to get into serious action.
“They also help to improve the athletes’ fitness. They organise official sporting events, leagues and championships,” he said, adding that clubs such as Randmark help to represent the District on provincial and national regulatory bodies.

While he is excited about his new job, he admits that attributes such as leadership and organisational skills are of the utmost important for someone in that position.
“When I was appointed, I said ‘challenge accepted’.”
Jan has thanked all those who have put their faith in him, and those who have been keeping the club alive.
“We appreciate our founding members who still pop in from time to time. To all the strangers running, walking and cycling around Randfontein, come and give us a try. Maybe we can inspire you to enter your first race, and maybe you too will become part of this family and achieve much more than you set out to do – as I did,” Jan added.
