Residents celebrate their human rights by staying fit

The community, including the former district mayor, gathered all in the name of fitness to celebrate Human Rights Day.

Fitness fanatics gathered at the Greenhills Stadium on Human Rights Day for a 5km and 8km Fun Run and Aerobic session.

This event saw both Don Juliano Fitness Club and Colossus Athletics Club as joint organisers.

“This clearly shows a good working relationship to encourage fitness in our community,” said Hilda Biyela, Don Juliano fitness instructor.

It is exciting to see people in all shapes and forms coming together on a holiday to keep fit,” added Andrew Vusi Mathiya, Colossus Athletics Club chairperson and fitness instructor.

Former West Rand District Mayor Mpho Nawa was part of the field of athletes who participated.

As far as results are concerned, Inam Hlahleni won the men’s 5km event in a time of 28 minutes and 50 seconds, followed by Kgotatso Rabie in second (28 minutes and 51 seconds) and Khaya Mthethwa (28 minutes and 58 seconds) in third. The women’s race was won by Kelebogile Selogilwe in a time of 38 minutes and 28 seconds while second place went to Minky Molefe (39 minutes and 40 seconds) followed by Refilwe Mangope.
