Malan leads Riebeeckrand 1st team past rivals in style

Riebeeckrand powered to a 52–12 victory over Jannas, with captain Kobus Malan celebrating his 50th first team appearance in style.

Hoërskool Riebeeckrand’s first rugby team delivered a commanding performance on Saturday, April 18, defeating long-time rivals Hoërskool Jan Viljoen 52–12.

The match was evenly contested in the first half, with both teams showing the grit typical of old rivals. The second half proved decisive as Riebeeckrand asserted its dominance early on. Their attacking play and disciplined execution saw them score consistently, leaving Jannas struggling to keep pace. The convincing victory reflected the team’s cohesion, skill and determination.

Adding to the occasion was a major milestone for Riebeeckrand captain Kobus Malan, who made his 50th first team appearance. Leading from the front, Malan played a key role in guiding his side to victory.

“I feel great, it’s a very special moment for me, and I’m glad I’m sharing it with my teammates. The boys played a wonderful game, even though there were moments in the game where we could have done better, but we will take a win any day,” he said.

“I’m immensely proud of the boys. They didn’t play a good first half, but at the end of the day, we were able to grind out the result, which is a testament to what this team can do. They play their hearts out for each other, the school, for the town they represent, and most importantly, they play for God.”

The team now looks ahead to the Puk Reeks final in Potchefstroom on Saturday, April 25, and will enter the match with confidence following this win.
