Late Wolves penalty denies Teine victory in thriller game

Randfontein Rugby Club delivered strong performances across all teams, but a last-minute penalty saw the first team settle for a draw against Northam Wolves, keeping both sides level at the top of the log.

Randfontein Rugby Club and Northam Wolves delivered a thrilling day of rugby action on Saturday, June 13, at Greenhills Stadium, with tightly contested matches across all divisions and a dramatic finish in the first team clash.

The U21 side kicked things off with an impressive 34–26 victory over Alberton Rugby Club, showcasing strong attacking play and resilience. The momentum continued as the third team secured a solid 26–12 win against the Wolves.

In one of the closest encounters of the day, the second team edged out the Wolves 30–29 in a nail-biting contest that kept spectators on the edge of their seats until the final whistle.

The highlight of the day, however, was the first team showdown, which ended in a dramatic 35–35 draw. Both teams showed intent, going try for try as the game progressed. Towards the end of the game, Randfontein appeared to have the game in hand. Ruan du Toit rushed the Wolves’ defence after a Teine scrum, scoring a try. Tiaan Naude then converted from the spot. The Wolves, however, held their nerve and slotted a penalty goal in the dying minutes to level the scores, ensuring the spoils were shared in this thrilling clash.

The results mean that Randfontein Rugby Club and Northam Wolves remain at the summit of the standings, equal on points. However, Randfontein currently holds the advantage with a superior points difference.

Looking ahead, the Teine side will be back in action this Saturday, June 20, when they take on Wanderers Rugby Club in what promises to be another exciting encounter.
