Randfontein’s Warrant Officer inspires with Comrades finish

Matome Molokomme continues his inspiring Comrades streak with a fifth consecutive finish.

Warrant Officer Matome Molokomme of Randfontein SAPS continues to inspire both in uniform and on the road, having completed the Comrades Marathon for the fifth consecutive year.

Molokomme’s journey in long-distance running has been one of passion, discipline and steady growth. A standout moment in his running career came in 2025 when he earned a coveted bronze medal at the iconic ultramarathon, a testament to his endurance and commitment to the sport.

“I started running as just a hobby and was inspired every time I met other runners on the road,” Molokomme shared. “Sometimes, when they passed me at high speeds, I would join them. They then started inviting me to register for local races, which I did.”

His natural love for running soon caught the attention of colleagues.

“One day, my colleague noticed that I loved running and recruited me to join the SAPS Gauteng Athletic Club. I was later elected deputy chairperson of the running club in 2025,” he said.

Molokomme’s achievements extend beyond the Comrades Marathon. He has completed four consecutive Two Oceans Marathons and has also taken part in two Maseru City Marathons in Lesotho in 2025 and 2026. His dedication has earned him several accolades, including recognition as SAPS Sportsman of the Year in the West Rand.

Beyond his personal achievements, Molokomme is passionate about encouraging fellow officers to embrace fitness.

“I wish more police officers would participate in sport to maintain discipline and physical fitness and help them cope with the stressful conditions we encounter in the line of duty,” he said.
“My biggest wish is to see more of my colleagues from the West Rand running together at the Comrades Marathon.”

Looking ahead, he has his sights set on an even greater milestone.

“My bucket list is to achieve a Green Number, meaning completing 10 Comrades Marathons, and I wish to do that consecutively,” he added.

Guided by the words of former President Nelson Mandela.

“Sport has the power to change the world.”

Molokomme continues to lead by example, proving that dedication to both duty and personal growth can go hand in hand.
