Athletes showcase top form in Central Gauteng Athletics cross-country league in West Rand

Local runners deliver standout performances as Fernando Macavela and Cornelia Joubert shine during the CGA Cross Country League 6 meeting.

Local athletes delivered strong performances on home ground during Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) Cross Country League 6, hosted by Warriors of West Athletics Club.

Fernando Macavela impressed in the men’s 4km race, finishing in 00:11:53 alongside Olympian Ryan Mphahlele, while Marco Bucarizza finished in 00:11:55.

Cornelia Joubert won the women’s sub-veteran 4km in 00:15:26, while Westonaria athlete Tebogo Mokgosinyane won the women’s veteran section in 00:16:55.

Relopafaditswe Ntsane finished second overall and first in the U11 age group in 00:10:52, behind Bokang Maboya of Ubuhle Athletics Club, who won in 00:10:49.

“It was a good job done on the day by Fernando,” said Macavela’s coach, Motlatsi Sensing of Boxer Athletics Club.

“We can’t get excited over this feat and think that we have arrived; it’s still early days.”
