Space United triumphs at Zenzele youth soccer tournament

Young footballers in Mohlakeng score valuable life lessons on respect and consent during a day of sport and mentorship aimed at tackling gender-based violence.

Space United emerged as the tournament winners during an U15 soccer event hosted at Zenzele Informal Settlement in Mohlakeng.

Hosted by the Modimo O Teng Foundation, the event used sport to empower young boys and promote unity against gender-based violence (GBV).

The day brought young players together for soccer, mentorship and discussions on respect, responsibility, positive masculinity and consent, while participants received food and refreshments throughout the day.

Mentorship for social change

Foundation founder Kopano Hosene said the discussions aimed to encourage positive behaviour, healthy relationships and greater awareness of the role young boys can play in preventing GBV.

The tournament concluded with a prize-giving ceremony, where participants received gifts, trophies and medals in recognition of their commitment and sportsmanship.

Hosene said the foundation believes sport can be a powerful tool for social change and that investing in and mentoring young boys can help build safer, more respectful communities.
