Spartans impress at nationals in PE
Spartans Karate Club impressed at this year's nationals in PE, so much so that four of their competitors were announced as part of the KSA National Squad.
The Spartans Karate Club based in Westonaria brought home multiple medals after competing in the nationals.
The athletes travelled to the Fairview Sports Centre, Gqeberha from Friday, 3 March to Sunday, 5 March for the KSA U21, Seniors, Veterans & Masters Nationals Championship.

Spartans public relations officer Martin Venter said there, the athletes were able to test themselves against all the best competitors from the country.
Roshan Singh won bronze in the U21 male kumite (fighting) division. Samantha Maré won bronze for kumite and placed top 20 for kata (forms) in the female senior division.

Mari Maré passed the judges course and exam for kumite and Sensei Enzo Pillay became an accredited coach for the 10th consecutive year after passing the exam for kata and kumite.
“The club then travelled to the Old Mutual Sports Centre in Durban for the KSA Children’s, Cadets and Junior National Championships over the weekend of March 16 to 18 where they competed against the top four competitors from each province.”
Martin added that here Kyle Kannemeyer placed fifth in the 12/13 year boys division for kumite.
“Aiden Arendse won bronze for kumite and placed 9th for kata in the 14/15 year cadet boys divisions. Rochelle Seitz won silver in the 12/13 year girls kumite division and Jordan Naryan placed 5th in the 10/11 year boys kumite division.”
He said that all the competitors who took part in the events earned their Gauteng Colors which will be issued by the Gauteng Sports Confederation.
“Spartans are also proud to announce that four of their competitors were announced as part of the KSA National Squad.”
