West Rand Police strike in major R3m drug bust

A 35-year-old suspect was arrested after police uncovered a large quantity of suspected crystal meth hidden during a targeted West Rand operation.

A West Rand police operation has resulted in the arrest of a suspected drug dealer and the seizure of crystal meth worth an estimated R3m.

In an official statement issued by Gauteng Police, an intelligence-driven operation was conducted yesterday (May 31) by Counter Narcotics Crime Intelligence, the West Rand Tactical Response Team and the West Rand K9 Unit in Diepsloot.

The operation followed information about two men allegedly involved in drug dealing in the area. Police identified the premises and conducted a search, during which officers discovered a black refuse bag hidden under a mattress.

The bag contained suspected crystal meth weighing about 10kg, with an estimated street value of about R3m.

A 35-year-old man who was found at the premises was arrested on charges of possession of drugs.

The suspect is expected to appear in court today, June 1.

Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni welcomed the arrest and commended the members involved in the operation.

We remain committed to removing drugs from our streets and holding those responsible accountable. Drug peddling will not be tolerated in our province,” said Mthombeni.
