Boschkop loses a ‘pillar in the community’ after Covid-19 death

“The Station Commander of Boschkop SAPS, Liutenenant Colonel Raymond Monyai contracted Covid-19 and lost the battle last night (Sunday). Our hearts and prayers go out to his family, friends and his team during this time and although he always reminded us that he won’t be with us forever, we will surely miss him.”

The Boschkop CPF and local police will give a guard of honour on Wednesday, to Lieutenant-Colonel Raymond Monyai, a beloved local police officer who died after contracting Covid-19.

Monyai was station commander at the Boschkop police station.

“He was a one of the core pillars in building a strong community relationship,” CPF spokesperson Jean Jonker said of Monyai.

“He built a great partnership between the CPF, community and private security service providers.

“He had a passion for his community and believed that a holistic approach to fighting crime included a moral renaissance or regeneration where we not only fight crime, but teach our children to be the best persons they can be,” said Jonker.

Jonker said Monyai also enjoyed outreaches to schools and impacted many children’s lives, including the children at Lesedi High.

“He believed in leaving behind a legacy of hope and that through mentorship we will build the next generation of leaders.”

Jonker said Monyai was a great policeman who did more than just catch “day-to-day criminals”.

“He went beyond just the everyday job of a police officer.”

“Our hearts and prayers go out to his family, friends and his team during this time. Although he always reminded us that he won’t be with us forever, we will surely miss him. We salute him, his passion and his leadership.”

Jonker said metro police would then escort the family to Boschkop police station at 10:15 from Graham Road.

“The family will be met by SAPS officers and there will be a handover and a prayer. The family will then leave the station driving through the guard of honour.”
