Tshwane police arrest 847 during recent operations

The success of all these operations was made possible through the collaboration of multiple stakeholders.

Police arrested 847 people in Pretoria during their operation last week.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk said the arrests took place during five separate operations and demonstrate the police’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding Tshwane.

He said the success of all these operations was made possible through the collaboration of multiple stakeholders.

These included the departments of home affairs, labour, correctional services, community safety; crime prevention wardens; Tracker; Gauteng traffic; Tshwane metro police (TMPD); local councillors; CPFs; and police from various units and stations in Tshwane.

“A liquor compliance operation was launched in Brooklyn to inspect liquor outlets for compliance on Friday, and eight fines were issued to liquor outlets not complying with the Liquor Control Act,” Van Dyk added.

On Thursday, June 29, Operation O kae Molao apprehended 46 undocumented immigrants, one person for public intoxication and two for drug dealing in Akasia and Soshanguve.

Several Ziplock plastic bags of dagga, weighing 180g, were confiscated, and 883 litres of illegal liquor were seized, leading to the closure of 11 liquor outlets for violating the Liquor Control Act.

“A total of 138 Aarto traffic infringement notices were issued during a roadblock, amounting to R62 300, and law enforcement personnel searched 1 160 individuals and 686 vehicles,’’ said Van Dyk.

Lyttelton police arrested four armed robbers in an intelligence-driven operation and recovered four firearms on Wednesday.

The four are suspected in several armed robberies in the area, and charges for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, as well as fraud, are expected to be added.

In addition, Van Dyk said Kameeldrift police executed a high-density operation in their area on Monday and arrested eight illegal immigrants.

“The operation involved the searching of 89 people and inspecting of 34 vehicles as well as eight liquor outlets.’’

Major-General A Nengovhela thanked all relevant stakeholders for their dedication and for ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents in Pretoria.
