Great spirit at Pretoria C-bond athletics inter-high

The Pretoria C-bond inter-high athletics event took place on Wednesday in front of a packed pavilion at the Pilditch stadium in the west of the city.

Students from the high schools involved in the Pretoria C-bond athletics event had to wait three years to again experience the full-fledged spirit of a proper inter-high.

On the track, the athletes faced each other and the standard of the athletics improved noticeably compared to previous years.

However, it was on the pavilion where the supporters of the nine participating schools properly enjoyed this privilege, after they had been denied attendance at the event for the past two years due to Covid regulations.

The schools came from the length and breadth of Tshwane, while Hoërskool Hartbeespoort from North West was also part of the fun and excitement.

From the south of the city came Uitsig High School and Sutherland High School. From the North there was Hoërskool Gerrit Maritz; from the east Hoërskool Erasmus (Bronkhorstspruit, which is part of Tshwane) and Curro Hazeldean; the Moot was represented by HTS John Vorster and from the central part of the city were the organizers of the event, Pretoria Boys High and Pretoria High School for Girls.

The staff in charge of the cheerleaders and spectator-students who came to support their athletes clearly put a lot of effort into being eligible for the spirit cup.

There were colourful and even extravagant outfits for the cheerleaders, while efforts were also made to make the fans stand out on the pavilion with colourful hats, pom-pom tassels and even posters.

Although the possibility of rain later in the afternoon was a reality, it was clear that the supporters would not simply leave their posts and that they were there to give their athletes extra energy with their spirited encouragement.

  • Rekord will report early tomorrow morning on the full results of the action on the track at this event.
