Sosh Ext 10 residents receive title deeds

Residents were happy to finally receive the official papers for their homes, while they were also cautioned not to lose these valuable documents and to continue paying the municipality for their basic services.

Residents from Soshanguve Extension 10 to the north of Pretoria couldn’t contain their excitement as Tshwane’s Human Settlements Department handed over the title deeds to their new homes on April 19.

According to Human Settlements MMC Ofentse Madzebatela, 822 title deeds have already been issued.
Soshanguve has 1 887 stands, of which 1 002 title deeds have been registered.

Madzebatela encouraged the beneficiaries who received their title deeds not to exchange them for loans from money lenders.

“Take insurance with a reliable, registered, and reputable insurance company to enable your house to be rebuilt should a natural disaster occur,” said Madzebatela.

He encouraged the beneficiaries to continue paying the municipality for basic services such as water electricity and other services.

“The continued supply of these services requires regular payment from them as consumers.

“They shouldn’t sell their houses as this could hurt their families, especially their children.”

Madzebatela advised the beneficiaries to consult a registered lawyer or a legal institution to draft them a will in the event of their death.

He also warned if they were to lose or misplace this valuable document, they would have enormous legal expenses to replace the original document, saying that government only covers the costs for the first title deed.

Madzebatela said home ownership is an exciting experience, as it restores pride, dignity, and respect.

“A house is also the largest asset most people own and as such, impacts positively on the financial status of the title holder.”

Soshanguve Ext 10 ward councillor Zacharia Ntohla said he was excited to see residents getting title deeds, because it brought security to the community.

Johanna Maluleke said she was happy to finally receive the papers for her house as she felt like a real home owner.

“I’m happy to finally have my title deed after more than 10 years living here.

“I think credit needs to go to our ward councillor who made it possible for us to get them because it’s been years.

“I can finally do whatever I want in my house and no one will tell me otherwise,” said Maluleke.
