Light returns to Dorandia as faulty streetlights are repaired

Residents are being encouraged to continue reporting service delivery faults after repairs restored lighting and improved safety in Compacta Street.

Residents of Dorandia can once again enjoy improved visibility and enhanced safety following the successful repair of faulty streetlights in Compacta Street.

The repairs were completed on June 18 after reports were submitted regarding the non-functioning lights.

Ward 2 Councillor Quentin Meyer confirmed that the streetlights had been repaired and thanked residents who continue to report service delivery issues in their communities.

He said streetlights play a critical role in ensuring the safety and security of residents, particularly during the winter months when darkness falls earlier.

The restoration of lighting along Compacta Street has been welcomed by community members who believe the repairs will help create a safer environment for both motorists and pedestrians.

Local resident Pontso Morolong said the repairs would make a noticeable difference in the area.

“When the streetlights are not working, it becomes very dark and that prompts illegal activities.

“We are grateful that the problem was addressed because it improves visibility and helps residents feel safer when returning home after dark,” she said.

A Dorandia resident, Conny Myburgh, praised the community members who took the time to report the fault.

“Streetlights are something many people take for granted until they stop working. They are important for road safety and security.

“It is encouraging to see that resident reports are making a difference and that the issue was resolved,” she said.

Meyer emphasised the importance of functioning streetlights and the role residents play in helping local authorities identify infrastructure problems.

“Functioning streetlights are important because they improve visibility, help residents feel safer, and make streets, sidewalks, and public spaces safer for everyone in Dorandia and Ward 2,” said Meyer.

He added that community participation remains essential in ensuring that faults are addressed promptly.

“Resident reports play a vital role in identifying faulty streetlights. The more reports we receive, the easier it is to log, track, and prioritise repairs, ensuring problems are addressed as quickly as possible,” he explained.

According to Meyer, the benefits of maintaining operational streetlights extend beyond visibility.

“Streetlight repairs help deter criminal activity, improve road safety for motorists and pedestrians, and contribute to a cleaner, safer, and more welcoming community with a better quality of life for all residents,” he said.

Meyer encouraged residents to continue reporting streetlight outages and other service delivery concerns so that they can be attended to as quickly as possible.
