Step back in history with Sammy Marks

Residents from Pretoria and the outskirts flocked to the Dinokeng Sammy Marks Museum to celebrate the 171th birthday of Sammy Marks on Saturday.
The place was fully packed with enthusiastic visitors who were looking forward to the celebration.
Many dressed up for the occasion in Victorian outfits to celebrate the life and times of the Marks family.
The event started at 10:00 and ended at 15:00.
Sammy Marks was a pioneer in the steel and coal mine industry and he was a true entrepreneur with a taste for the finer things in life.

Guitarist, Trevor Nasser, entertained guests with his music.
Visitors enjoyed the beautiful garden and admired some exquisite crafts such as handmade lace, embroidery, wood carving and knife making.
Whisky lovers had the opportunity to taste whisky from Draymans Distillery.
Their whisky was specially blended to replicate the whisky description of the original, Eerste Fabrieke, Hatherly Distillery as financed by Sammy Marks and opened by President Paul Kruger.
Visitors could enjoy traditional pap and kaiings (mealie porridge and crackling), chipstix, Chinese food, pancakes and many more.
Others had the opportunity to take family pictures in period costumes.
