Visitors experience a different kind of rodeo: horses vs bikes
From timed challenges to mechanical bull rides, the event offered visitors a different take on the traditional rodeo experience.

A unique combination of horses, rodeo skills and motorbikes entertained visitors at the Rough Stock Rodeo Club event in Pretoria east, where riders and horses went head-to-head in a series of time-based challenges.

The event showcased the concept of horsepower versus the power of the horse, while giving riders an opportunity to train, develop their skills and expose horses to different environments and sounds.

Part of the training involved desensitising the horses to loud noises and other distractions. The horses were put through their paces alongside motorbikes, helping them become more comfortable around the noise and movement while allowing riders to improve their own skills.

The challenges were timed, with both horse and motorbike riders competing in different activities. The motorbikes ultimately took the overall win, but the event provided an opportunity for both groups to demonstrate their abilities and showcase their equipment.

Among the equipment on display was what was described as the first electric scooter or motorbike of its kind in South Africa, which attracted much interest from visitors.

Beyond the competition, attendees were treated to food, mechanical bull rides and opportunities to interact with the riders and equipment. The event also highlighted the role of community, religion, faith and a shared passion for horses.

The gathering provided an entertaining day for visitors while showcasing the dedication involved in training horses, developing riding skills and bringing different parts of the local community together.
