Man nabbed for possession of illicit medication in KZN
The police, who were acting on a tip-off, said the consignment included Alprazolam tablets, Adco-Salterpyn cough syrup, Benylin cough mixture with codeine, loose dagga in a plastic packet and an undisclosed amount of cash from the sale of these items.
The medication, including cough syrup, was being sold to school children in the area, Public Eye reports.
The police, who were acting on a tip-off, said the consignment included Alprazolam tablets, Adco-Salterpyn cough syrup, Benylin cough mixture with codeine, loose dagga in a plastic packet and an undisclosed amount of cash from the sale of these items.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joshua Maistry said the police subsequently arrested the man who has been slammed with charges relating to the medicine and related substance control act, Contravention of Section 22a- Act 101 of 196.
He warned parents, teachers and residents about unscrupulous individuals who are exploiting the youth by enticing them to experiment with these prescribed medications.
“We would like the children to be safeguarded against these ills. Our youths are of today are very curious and always like to experiment with anything new that is sold, including undesirable and illegal substance,” said Maistry.
